Find out more about apple nutrition, its nutrients
and its many benefits below.

The Apple

Man has savored apples for centuries. Today, we enjoy even more varieties of apples. I'm sure you have your favorite. I love those that have more crunch and are mildly sour such as Golden Delicious, Royal Gala and Pacific Rose.

There's more to it than just the taste....

It's nutritious. And, it has natural healing properties too.

Apple Nutrition and Its Benefits

Antioxidants: It contains antioxidants such as flavonoids and polyphenols. Among these is quercetin which is a powerful antioxidant. Everyone needs antioxidants to fight cell damage. Cell damage, in the long run, may result in cancer and degenerative diseases.

Dietary Fiber: Apples contain pectin which is soluble fiber. It also contains insoluble fiber. Fiber aids in keeping the colon healthy. It also helps those who are diabetic. How does it do this? Fiber is bulk and this slows down the digestion and absorption of sugar into the bloodstream. This is good as we do not want to spike our sugar level.

Fiber also lowers bad cholesterol and hence reduce the risk of heart diseases and stroke. A good practice to live by - include fiber in every meal you take.

Toxins & Heavy Metals: Apples help in cleansing the body of toxins and heavy metals such as lead and mercury.

Apple Cider Vinegar: This is a gem in traditional medicine. It has a cleansing effect on the body.

How To Enjoy The Apple

Again, my suggestion is to enjoy the fruit as is, fresh and natural. This way, you get the most out of it.

Apples are best taken with its skin. That's where most of the fiber and quercetin are. My recommendation - buy organic apples and enjoy the crunch, with no fear of consuming harmful pesticides or chemicals.

Fresh apple juice is refreshing, especially on a hot day. You can juice it on its own or with other fruits. Granny Smith is one of the best apples for juicing. Its mild sourness makes it more refreshing. It goes well with carrots or oranges. I'm sure you have your favorite combo.

How about some apple recipes? Some do not require any cooking; others require minimal. And that's what we want as cooking destroys most of the nutrition. Here are some for you to try out:

Apple juice
Apple salad
Apple pancake
