Blood Sugar: Including it in a meal prevents spiking of the sugar level. In other words, the blood glucose level does not rise rapidly. This is especially beneficial for those who are diabetic.

Cancer: Studies have shown that certain cancers can be inhibited by the use of this substance. In some other instances, it actually kills cancerous cells. A study by Debra Mohnen and her team at University of Georgia Cancer Center found that prostrate cancer cells self-destoy themselves with the use of this substance. In other studies, it has been found to prevent lung and colon cancer.

Constipation & Diarrhea: It is used in medications for constipation as well as diarrhea.

Wounds: It is used in wound bandages.
